Because all of my friends are dying to find this out, and really I can’t imagine life without these.
First, let me tell you that smoothie bowls are the best thing for people who can never seem to get “full” off of regular smoothies. The idea of adding textured elements on the top, and incorporating them into the meal, is that chewing sends messages to your brain that you’re eating. Though when you drink smoothies, your brain thinks you’re just hydrating your body, not filling it up with food. No chewing = No full feeling. If you are full after drinking a smoothie, my middle finger is out to you. The best part about eating a smoothie bowl for breakfast is that by the time you’re full or finished, you don’t have to loosen your belts. Not once has eating a bowl made me look pregnant after I ate, so scarf it down and put on that bikini. It is by far one of the most refreshing breakfasts, and getting full never looked so good.
Here are a few pantry items I would consider having if you are making a bowl.
- Sambazon Acai Smoothie Packs
- Frozen Berries – Strawberries, Blueberries, Raspberries, Blackberries
- Frozen Fruit – Mangoes, Grapes, Bananas, Honeydew Melon, Pineapple
- Fresh Fruit – Pomegranate, Bananas, Berries, Mangoes, Strawberries, Papaya
- Chia Seeds
- Honey or Bee Pollen
- Cocoa Nibs
- Coconut Flakes
- Almond Milk
- Protein Powder
- Flax Seed
My personal preference for bowls is they are usually composed of the fruits in bold lettering, though it all depends on how much money I have to spend and what I can get local and seasonal (I have a list of where you can go in Durham Region to pick your own berries this season) If your budget is tight, go for the frozen fruits – these are just as good and you can usually find a great mix to add all kinds of different flavours. Throw flax into it for added fibre, spirulina is a great addition as well if you’re looking for added protein and antioxidants. The main thing to understand here is that there are no limitations on bowls, they are the gift that keeps giving.
Keep in mind when making these that you should make it full of all your favourites.
